Best Days to Get Pregnant Before Ovulation
The two days before ovulation and the day itself carry the highest odds — time them right.
At a glance
The Short Answer
The days with the highest conception odds are the two days before ovulation and ovulation day itself. Timing intercourse for any of the three days ending on ovulation day gives you the best chance in a given cycle.

Why Before Beats After
The egg lives only 12–24 hours after release, but sperm can survive up to 5 days in the reproductive tract. Intercourse before ovulation lets sperm wait for the egg; intercourse after often arrives too late. That is why the fertile window is defined as the 5 days before ovulation through 1 day after.
Worked Example: A 28-Day Cycle Starting March 1
- Ovulation: March 15 (cycle day 15)
- Fertile window: March 10–16
- Peak days: March 13–15
Aiming for every day or every other day across March 11–15 covers the highest-probability window without needing to pinpoint the exact hour of ovulation.
Odds per Cycle
Even with perfect timing, healthy couples under 35 conceive in roughly 20–30% of cycles, so several months of well-timed attempts are completely normal. Enter your last period and cycle length above to map your peak days onto real dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is every day or every other day better during the fertile window?
Both work well. Daily intercourse during the peak days slightly maximizes coverage; every other day is nearly as effective and easier to sustain.
Can I get pregnant 5 days before ovulation?
It is possible but unlikely — sperm survival up to 5 days is the outer edge of the fertile window. The odds climb sharply in the final 2-3 days before ovulation.
What if I miss the peak days this cycle?
Conception that cycle becomes unlikely once ovulation has passed by more than a day. The calculator gives you a fresh window to plan around next cycle.
Does the calculator guarantee the timing?
No — it estimates from averages, and real ovulation can shift by a day or two. Pair the dates with an ovulation test or temperature charting for the tightest timing.
