Love Calculator by Name

Two names in, one compatibility percentage out — with the math behind the score shown below it.

The Quick Answer

Type any two names above and you get a compatibility percentage from 0 to 100, calculated instantly. For example, Emma and Liam score 23% — "a challenging match, but not impossible." The result comes entirely from the letters in the names, so the same two names always produce the same score.

How the Names Become a Percentage

The algorithm is simple and fully deterministic. Each name's letters are converted to ASCII codes and summed, then a bonus of 15 points per vowel is added. The two weighted scores are combined and mapped onto a 0-100 scale. For Emma and Liam:

  • Emma: ASCII sum 384, two vowels, weighted score 384 + 30 = 414
  • Liam: ASCII sum 387, two vowels, weighted score 387 + 30 = 417
  • Combined: (414 + 417) mod 101 = 831 mod 101 = 23%

First Names, Nicknames, or Full Names?

All of them work, but they give different scores, because every character changes the ASCII sum. "Emma" and "Emma Smith" will not match the same way. Capitalization matters too: uppercase E is ASCII 69 while lowercase e is 101. Pick the version of the name you actually use day to day — or try all of them and compare.

A Word of Perspective

This is an entertainment tool, not a compatibility test. It has no scientific or astrological basis, and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere — the whole calculation runs in your browser. Use it for fun, not for relationship decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the result the same every time?

Yes. The algorithm is deterministic, so the same two names always produce the same percentage.

Does the order of the two names matter?

No. The two weighted scores are added together, so swapping which name goes first gives the identical result.

Can I use full names or nicknames?

Yes, any text works. Different spellings and name versions produce different scores because every character changes the calculation.

Are the names I enter saved or shared?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser, and BestCalc never collects, stores, or transmits the names or results.
