The Quick Answer
Net 30 means payment is due 30 calendar days after the invoice date, weekends included. An invoice dated September 15, 2026 is due Thursday, October 15, 2026. The count starts the day after invoicing, so day 30 is the deadline itself.

Due Dates for Common Payment Terms
From an invoice date of September 15, 2026:
| Terms | Days | Due Date | Day of Week |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net 15 | 15 | September 30, 2026 | Wednesday |
| Net 30 | 30 | October 15, 2026 | Thursday |
| Net 60 | 60 | November 14, 2026 | Saturday |
| Net 90 | 90 | December 14, 2026 | Monday |
Calendar Days, Not Business Days
Unless a contract explicitly says "business days," net terms count every day on the calendar. Net 30 from September 15 is October 15 whether or not weekends fall in between. If the due date lands on a Saturday — like the net-60 example above — many businesses pay the Friday before or the Monday after, but that courtesy depends on the contract, not the calendar.
Early-Payment Discounts
Terms like 2/10 net 30 add a twist: pay within 10 days and take a 2% discount, otherwise the full amount is due in 30. On a $5,000 invoice dated September 15, paying by September 25 saves $100. That discount annualizes to a very high effective return, so it is usually worth taking when cash flow allows. Use the Add / Subtract tab above to pin down both the discount deadline and the final due date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does net 30 include weekends?
Yes. Standard net terms count calendar days. Only terms written as "30 business days" exclude Saturdays and Sundays.
When does the 30-day clock start?
Usually on the invoice date, with day one being the following day. Some contracts start the count on receipt of goods instead — check the agreement's wording.
What does 2/10 net 30 mean?
It means a 2% discount if you pay within 10 days, otherwise the full invoice is due in 30 days. On a $5,000 invoice, that discount is worth $100.
What if the due date falls on a weekend or holiday?
The contractual due date does not move automatically. Many vendors accept payment the next business day, but confirm with them rather than assuming.
