Wind Chill Calculator in Celsius

Enter °C and km/h directly — the calculator handles the conversion and shows metric frostbite risk.

Wind Chill Works in Celsius Too

Select Metric (°C, km/h) above and enter your local values — no manual conversion needed. For example, −10°C with a 30 km/h wind feels like −19.5°C. Internally the tool converts to the North American formula and converts back, so metric and imperial results are exactly consistent.

The Formula, for Reference

The standard North American formula is defined in °F and mph: WCT = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275TV^0.16. The calculator converts °C to °F and km/h to mph (dividing by 1.60934), runs the formula, and converts the result back to Celsius. A wind chill of −19.5°C equals −3.1°F.

Metric Validity Limits and Frostbite Thresholds

The formula is valid only for temperatures at or below 10°C and wind speeds at or above 5 km/h — the metric equivalents of 50°F and 3 mph. The frostbite thresholds translate as follows: 30-minute risk at a wind chill of about −28°C, 10-minute risk at −38°C, and 5-minute risk at −48°C. The calculator displays the risk label automatically alongside the Celsius result.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the wind chill at −10°C with 30 km/h wind?

About −19.5°C. Converting through the North American formula: −10°C is 14°F, 30 km/h is 18.6 mph, which yields −3.1°F, or −19.5°C.

Is the Celsius formula different from the Fahrenheit one?

No. The standard wind chill equation is defined in Fahrenheit and mph; metric values are converted in and out, so results are identical either way you enter them.

What wind chill in Celsius causes frostbite in 30 minutes?

A wind chill of about −28°C (−19°F) or colder. At −38°C the risk time drops to about 10 minutes, and at −48°C to about 5 minutes.

Why do I get N/A for mild temperatures in metric?

The formula only applies at or below 10°C with wind of at least 5 km/h. In milder conditions, wind chill is not meaningfully different from the air temperature.
