Gravity of Planets Compared to Earth
From Pluto's 6.7% of Earth gravity to Jupiter's 236% — here is every body in the solar system side by side.
At a glance
Earth Equals 1.0 — Everything Else Scales From There
Surface gravity depends on a body's mass and radius, so the solar system spans an enormous range. Pluto pulls at just 6.7% of Earth's gravity, while Jupiter reaches 236.4% — and the Sun, for comparison, 2,701%. The calculator multiplies your Earth weight by each body's gravity ratio to show what you would weigh there.

| Mars | 3.72 | 0.376× | 56.4 lb |
| Mercury | 3.70 | 0.378× | 56.7 lb |
| Uranus | 8.87 | 0.889× | 133.4 lb |
| Venus | 8.87 | 0.904× | 135.6 lb |
| Saturn | 10.44 | 0.916× | 137.4 lb |
| Neptune | 11.15 | 1.125× | 168.8 lb |
| Jupiter | 24.79 | 2.364× | 354.6 lb |
| Sun | 274.0 | 27.01× | 4,051.5 lb |
Surprises in the Table
A few entries defy intuition. Saturn is 95 times Earth's mass but its gravity ratio is only 0.916 — its huge, low-density radius pushes the cloud tops far from the center, and gravity falls with the square of that distance. Mercury and Mars, very different bodies, land within half a percent of each other (0.378 vs 0.376). And Neptune is the only body besides Jupiter and the Sun where you would actually weigh more than on Earth.
Why Mass and Radius Both Matter
Surface gravity follows g = G × M / R²: double a planet's mass and gravity doubles, but double its radius and gravity quarters. That is why dense, compact Mercury nearly matches the much larger Mars, and why the Sun's modest density still produces 274 m/s² — its mass advantage is simply overwhelming.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which planet has gravity closest to Earth's?
Saturn, at 0.916 times Earth gravity, is the closest — followed by Venus at 0.904. Despite Saturn being a gas giant, its low density keeps its cloud-top gravity near ours.
Where would I weigh the most in the solar system?
The Sun, at 27.01 times Earth gravity — a 150 lb person would register over 4,000 lb. Among planets, Jupiter is the maximum at 2.364 times Earth weight.
Why does Saturn have weaker gravity than Earth despite being so big?
Gravity depends on mass divided by radius squared. Saturn is 95 times Earth's mass but about 9 times its radius, so the radius term nearly cancels the mass advantage.
Is gravity the same all over a planet?
It varies slightly with altitude, latitude, and local geology — Earth itself varies by about 0.5% from poles to equator. The ratios here use standard average surface values.
