BAC for a 150 Pound Woman
Per-drink estimates and sobering times for a 150-pound woman, based on the Widmark formula.
At a glance
The Short Answer
At 150 pounds, a woman gains roughly 0.037% BAC per standard drink before any time passes, and loses about 0.015% per hour. Two drinks in an hour lands near 0.060%; three drinks in an hour reaches about 0.097% — over the 0.08% legal limit for driving.

Estimated BAC by Drinks and Time
| Standard Drinks | After 1 Hour | After 2 Hours | After 3 Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.022% | 0.007% | 0.000% |
| 2 | 0.060% | 0.045% | 0.030% |
| 3 | 0.097% | 0.082% | 0.067% |
| 4 | 0.135% | 0.120% | 0.105% |
Note the 3-drink row: even after three full hours, the estimate remains elevated at 0.067% — close enough to the limit that driving would be a serious gamble.
Where These Numbers Come From
The Widmark formula computes BAC = (drinks × 14 g) ÷ (weight in kg × 0.55 × 10) − 0.015 × hours. At 150 pounds (68 kg), the female body-water factor of 0.55 puts each 14-gram standard drink at about 0.037%. The calculator above runs exactly this math for any combination of drinks and elapsed time.
Staying Under the Limit
To keep an estimate under 0.08%, a 150-pound woman needs to stay at roughly 2 standard drinks or fewer in the first hour, and add no more than one per hour after. But the Widmark result is a population average — food, medications, fatigue, and individual metabolism all move the real figure, so the only fully reliable plan is not driving after drinking.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a 150 lb woman take to sober up from 3 drinks?
From a peak near 0.097% after one hour, roughly 6.5 total hours to reach 0.00% at the standard 0.015% per hour rate.
Is a glass of wine one drink?
A 5-oz pour of 12% wine is one standard drink. Restaurant pours are often 6-9 oz, and stronger wines run 14-15%, so a single large glass can equal 1.5-2 drinks.
Why is the female estimate higher than the male one at the same weight?
Women on average have proportionally less body water, so the same alcohol dissolves into a smaller volume. The Widmark formula uses a 0.55 factor for women versus 0.68 for men.
Can BAC keep rising after I stop drinking?
Yes. Alcohol still absorbing from the stomach can push BAC up for 30-90 minutes after the last drink, especially on an empty stomach. The calculator's estimate assumes absorption is complete.
